Customer Choice in Illinois
In an effort to promote competition among electric power suppliers, Illinois lawmakers approved the Electric Service Customer Choice and Rate Relief Law of 1997. Today, commercial and industrial customers have a number of Retail Electric Suppliers to choose from, and the market continues to develop.    The Customer Choice law established a rate reduction and 10-year rate freeze that saved consumers more than $1 billion. However, the below-market prices paid during that time did not reflect the true costs of generating or delivering power. As the rate freeze ends in 2007, consumers will feel market prices for the first time in a decade.
Electric Supply Options
Illinois customers will have three options for meeting their electric supply needs in 2007 and beyond:
		Basic Generation Service (BGS)
		Real-Time Pricing (RTP)
		Retail Energy Supplier (RES)
